Fox Street chat with Quentin at Second Story Garage music video studios in Boulder, Colorado.

Colorado band Fox Street — formerly Fox Street All Stars — is in the studio working on its third release, but they gave us a preview of the album’s material when they visited the Garage. Our conclusion is that few groups in the area are capable of the kind of deep-soul, dirty rock that Fox Street practices.

One song that stood out was “Our Garden,” a slow-burning tune written by frontman Jonathan “Skippy” Huvard. He gave his praise-the-Lord voice plenty of room to roam in the song. The band also played “Ain’t Easy” and “Something About” when they visited the Garage.

The band’s lineup during the session included Bill McKay, one of the Front Range’s go-to keyboardists. McKay first came to local prominence in the 1990s with Band Du Jour. He later played with the Derek Trucks Band and Leftover Salmon. Fox Street’s bassist, Todd Smallie, has played with JJ Grey & Mofro. Other members of Fox Street during the session were Eric Low on drums, James Dumm on guitar, Mirco Altenbach on sax and Jon Grey on trumpet. And don’t miss Quentin’s interview with Huvard and Dumm.

What they brought us: A copy of an earlier CD, Welcome to Mighty Pleasin.
